Track and Field readies for NSIC Outdoor Championships Friday and Saturday

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University women’s track and field team will travel to Winona, Minn., Friday and Saturday to take part in the 2018 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Championships. Events begin at 10 a.m. Friday, May 11 and 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12 at Paul Giel Field on the campus of Winona State University.

Sophomore Gena Baklund continued to improve her numbers in the hammer throw at the NDSU Tune-Up Friday, May 4 while setting the BSU program record for the fifth time in six meets during the outdoor season. She recorded a toss of 165-feet-3-inches, which broke her previous record by almost six feet and ranks second among all throws in the NSIC this season. Freshman Venice Stewart broke the BSU 100m dash record for the second time this season, clocking in with a time of 12.10 and a first-place finish in the event. The 4x100m relay team of Stewart, freshman Cheri’A Adams, junior Kelsey Hurley and sophomore Jada Barker also tied its previous program record with a third-place finish of 47.37.

Stewart brought home two first-place finishes in the 100m and 200m dash while BSU finished with five top-five finishes during the meet. Barker also set personal record marks in the 100m, taking third place, and 200m dash, while Hurley set a personal record of 5-3 in the high jump to finish fifth.

Ten BSU personal records were broken or tied during the NDSU Tune-Up.
