Benson earns All-NSIC honors

Bemidji State University women’s track and field senior Christa Benson received capped her collegiate career with more accolades Wednesday. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced that she had earned a pair of All-NSIC awards for her performance at the conference outdoor championships.

The Bemidji State University track and field team wrapped up its regular season of meets Saturday with six event wins and seven personal record marks set at the MSU Twilight and Cobber Dual. The Beavers sent their sprinters to compete in the 100-meter dash in Mankato, Minn., and sent the remainder of the team to Moorhead, Minn., for 11 events.

The Bemidji State University track and field program will compete in one more meet to conclude its regular season Saturday, May 4 at the Concordia Moorhead Dual in Moorhead, Minn. Rezabek javelin win highlights BSU’s second-place finish at Masanz Classic

Freshman Coley Rezabek took her first career event win Saturday as the Bemidji State University track and field team finished second overall at the Ron Masanz Classic in Moorhead, Minn. Rezabek set a personal record with her javelin throw of 129-feet-02-inches, one of 14 Beavers personal record marks set during the meet.


BSU takes second behind 14 personal record marks at Cobber Twilight

Fourteen Bemidji State University track and field outdoor personal records helped the program to a second-place finish Tuesday evening at the Cobber Twilight held at the Jake Christiansen Stadium in Moorhead, Minn. Sophomore Venice Stewart continued to attack the BSU outdoor record board while tying the all-time 100-meter dash mark and taking two event wins.

Track & Field shines with record-breaking events in California

Bemidji State University found great success over a three-day meet week as five program records were broken, six NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying marks were met, and 16 personal record marks were set at five meets in California and Minnesota.


Kean announces additions of Ekereke and Jackson to Track and Field program

Bemidji State University women’s track and field head coach Kevin Kean announced the addition of two student-athletes to the program after Kendra Ekereke and Runelda Jackson signed National Letters of Intent Wednesday. Ekereke, a mid-distance runner and jumper from Oakdale, Minn., and Jackson, a distance runner from Royal Palm Beach, Fla., will join Beavers Track and Field beginning in the Fall of 2019.


Track and Field ready for full week of meets in California and Minnesota

The Bemidji State University track and field program will send student-athletes to five meets over a three-day span, including stops at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, and Cal State LA Twilight Open in California, and the Manitou Classic and Lady Bear Twilight in Minnesota.

The Bemidji State University track and field program will take a bye week as the Al Bortke Open scheduled for Saturday, April 13 has been cancelled.

The Bemidji State University track and field program will travel West to University of Mary to take part in the Al Bortke Open Saturday, April 13. The Beavers start field events at 11 a.m. followed by track events at 12 p.m. at the Bismarck MDU Resources Community Bowl.


Three program records set as Beaver finish second at Dutch Invitational

Three Bemidji State University track and field outdoor program records were reestablished as the team took a second-place finish at the Dutch Invitational Saturday in Pella, Iowa. Junior Gena Baklund and sophomore Venice Stewart each broke their own program records in the hammer throw and 100-meter dash, respectively, while senior Christa Benson broke the 16-year-old heptathlon program record.

The Bemidji State University track and field program sends its squad to Pella, Iowa April 5-6 for the Dutch Invitational hosted by Central College. The Beavers will begin the two-day meet at 2 p.m. Friday followed by a 9:30 a.m. start time Saturday at Ron Shipper Stadium.


Beaver Track and Field takes first at Saint John’s Invitational outdoor meet

The Bemidji State University track and field team finished its first outdoor meet of 2019 as the top team after taking six event wins Sunday at the Saint John’s Invitational in Collegeville, Minn. As a team, the Beavers finished with 114.0 points, 20 points ahead of second place, while 17 personal record marks were set.

The Bemidji State University cross country and track and field teams will team up with the BSU Sustainability Office to host the 2019 Stride into Spring 5K/10K April 27. The annual run/walk begins at 9 a.m. from the parking lot of the Gillett Recreation Center.


Stewart completes 200m dash at 2019 NCAA DII Indoor Championships

Sophomore sprinter Venice Stewart completed the 200-meter dash at the 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships Friday in Bemidji State University’s first appearance in the meet since 2011. Stewart took 17th in the preliminary heat with a time of 24.84.


Howe-Welle Women's Athletics Golf Tournament set for Aug. 23

The Howe-Welle Women’s Athletics Golf Tournament is set for August 23 at the Bemidji Town and Country Club. Formerly known as the Lady Beaver Tournament the golf outing returns as one of the events scheduled for the 50th Anniversary of BSU Women’s Athletics Celebration weekend Aug. 23–25, 2019.


Beavers to run at NCAA DII Championships March 8-9

The Bemidji State University track and field program will make its first appearance at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships since 2011 with sophomore sprinter Venice Stewart taking part in the 200-meter dash March 8-9. Stewart will compete among 19 student-athletes in the event in Pittsburg, Kan., with the preliminary round scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Friday.

Sophomore Venice Stewart and freshman Ryne Prigge continued the recent trend of breaking Bemidji State University indoor track and field records as the team completed its two-meet weekend at the Bison Open and the Lake Superior Challenge. The record-breaking marks in the 300-meter dash by Stewart and the 1,000m run by Prigge were two of 13 personal records set Friday and Saturday.


BSU to compete at Bison Open and Lake Superior Challenge in full weekend

The Bemidji State University track and field team will send student-athletes to the Bison Open Feb. 1-2 and the Lake Superior Challenge Feb. 2 as part of a two-day meet weekend. The Beavers will compete in both track and field events Friday and Saturday in Fargo, N.D., while the throwers will head to Duluth, Minn., Saturday to compete.

Sophomore Venice Stewart and the 4x400-meter relay team highlighted a successful showing for the Bemidji State University women’s track and field team Saturday at the UND Indoor Open as two program records were broken. Stewart broke her previous BSU record in the 60m dash while hitting an NCAA provisional qualifying marks.


Track and Field aim to continue success at UND Indoor Open

The 2019 schedule continues for the Bemidji State University track and field program with a trip across Highway 2 to take part in the University of North Dakota Indoor Open Jan. 26 in Grand Forks, N.D. BSU will take part in the event for the second consecutive season, which begins at 12 p.m. Saturday.


Cross Country, Track and Field add distance runner to 2018 signing class

The Bemidji State University cross country and track and field head coach Kevin Kean has announced the addition of distance runner Jasmine Rascon to the program’s 21018-19 signing class. Rascon will run for both programs after signing a National Letter of Intent to join BSU next fall.

Bemidji State University track and field head coach Kevin Kean announced the addition of two more student-athletes to the 2018-19 signing class in Janice Cole and Emma Realing. The two additions in spritns and distance bring the Beavers’ class to eight, all of which will join the program in the fall of 2019.

The Bemidji State University women’s track and field program hit another NCAA provisional qualifying mark Friday afternoon at the Dakota Classic in Fargo, N.D., as senior Christa Benson set a personal record in the pentathlon. Benson took third in the event while senior Kelsey Hurley won the 200-meter dash to help the Beavers to a fourth-place finish as a team.

Festivities will begin with a kick-off social celebrating Beaver Athletics history and honoring their founders Oct. 6 at BSU’s American Indian Resource Center.


Seven individuals, team to be inducted into Bemidji State Athletic Hall of Fame

Former Bemidji State student-athletes Denis Lemieux (men’s hockey 1968-72), Len Rothlisberger (men’s swimming 1968-72), Rich Schwartz (football 1981-85), Karen (Morrissey) Stellrecht (women’s basketball 1993-97) and Andrea (Block) Zenner (softball 1998-2001) will be inducted into the Alumni B Club Athletic Hall of Fame Feb. 16. They will be joined by Alumni Coaching Achievement Award recipient Wynn Gmitroski (1982) and the BSU Coaches Hall of Fame inductee Dr. Muriel Gilman. In addition, Bemidji State’s 1992 women’s cross-country ski team will be enshrined into its Team Hall of Fame.


Gordy Skaar Memorial Golf Tournament set for June 15

The 41st Annual Gordy Skaar Memorial Golf Tournament is set for Friday, June 15 at Bemidji Town and Country Club and it’s not too late to participate. Registration materials are now being accepted for the event to benefit the Bemidji State Athletic Scholarship Fund.
