Track & Field takes six event wins at Cobber Dual and MSU Twilight

MOORHEAD, Minn. (Jake Christiansen Stadium) -- The Bemidji State University track and field team wrapped up its regular season of meets Saturday with six event wins and seven personal record marks set at the MSU Twilight and Cobber Dual. The Beavers sent their sprinters to compete in the 100-meter dash in Mankato, Minn., and sent the remainder of the team to Moorhead, Minn., for 11 events.

Junior Jada Barker led the sprinters at the MSU Twilight with a second-place finish in the 100m during the preliminary round with a time of 12.09, qualifying for the finals. Freshmen Beatrice Kjelland and Jonae Bond both joined Barker with finals-qualifying times of 12.29 and 12.42, respectively, including a personal record mark by Bond. In the final, Barker took second again with a time of 12.15 while Bond took seventh with a time of 12.75. Kjelland did not run in the finals event.

All six of BSU’s event wins came at the Cobber Dual, which was also attended by Concordia College and Minnesota State University Moorhead. Senior Christa Benson took BSU’s lone win on the track with a time of 1:07.02 in the 400m hurdles.

Five of BSU’s six wins came in the field, including wins by junior Gena Baklund in the hammer throw (159-05), sophomore Cheri’A Adams in the long jump (16-03), freshman Kylie Monson in the triple jump (36-07.75), freshman Zoe Christensen in the shot put (44-00.75), and freshman Coley Rezabek in the javelin (127-10). Baklund’s win in the hammer throw is her third of the season while Christensen and Rezabek earned their second win each in their respective events.

Bemidji State will return to action May 10-11 for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Championships hosted in Duluth, Minn. The meet will begin at 10 a.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday at Malosky Stadium.
