Bemidji State track and field readies for NSIC Championships

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University women’s track and field team will travel to Duluth, Minn., Friday and Saturday to take part in the 2019 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Championships. Events begin at 10 a.m. Friday, May 10 and 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11 at James S. Malosky Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota Duluth.

The men’s hammer throw will kick off the field events at 10 a.m. Friday with the women’s 10,000-meter run participants toeing the line at 10 a.m. to get events underway on the track.

BSU wrapped up its regular season Saturday with six event wins and seven personal record marks set at the MSU Twilight and Cobber Dual.

All six of BSU’s event wins came at the Cobber Dual, which was also attended by Concordia College and Minnesota State University Moorhead. Senior Christa Benson took BSU’s lone win on the track with a time of 1:07.02 in the 400m hurdles. In the field events, junior Gena Baklund won the hammer throw (159-05), sophomore Cheri’A Adams took the long jump (16-03), freshman Kylie Monson won the triple jump (36-07.75), freshman Zoe Christensen earned a shot put win (44-00.75), and freshman Coley Rezabek won the javelin (127-10). Baklund’s win in the hammer throw is her third of the season while Christensen and Rezabek earned their second win each in their respective events.

Leading up to the championships, a trio of Beavers helped the team secure nine points at the 2019 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships in Aberdeen, S.D. Benson took second in the heptathlon with a BSU outdoor record, NCAA provisional qualifying mark (4,689) for eight points while freshman Kylie Monson took eighth (4,264) to add one point towards the team’s score for the NSIC Outdoor Championships.
