Darius Carey enters his second season with the Beaver Football coaching staff in 2020 as the defensive line coach. Carey joined BSU after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Quincy University with responsibility on the defensive line.

Carey, in his first season at BSU, led the defensive line in 2019 and was on staff for a team that went 8-3 in 2019. The Gang Green defense recorded 30 sacks, averaged 20.8 points allowed per game, and boasted a 28.7 percent third-down conversion rates, which ranked 13th best in the nation. The red zone defense for the Beavers ranked fourth-best in the country at 60.7 percent. Defensive lineman Alex Hoffman was named to the All-NSIC First Team while defensive tackle Josh Wleh was named to the All-NSIC Honorable Mention Team.

Carey spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant coach with Quincy while helping the defensive line earn three All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selections in 2018. In addition to his duties on the defensive line, Carey also served as assistant recruiting coordinator, strength and conditioning assistant, and assistant equipment manager.

Prior to coaching as a graduate assistant, Carey was a four-year starter for Quincy as a defensive tackle. He earned 2014 All-GLVC Honorable Mention and 2015 USA College Football Division II Preseason All-America Honorable Mention after finishing his sophomore season with 44 total tackles, four tackles for a loss, two sacks, and one fumble recovery. Carey finished his career at Quincy with 130 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.

Carey is from Florissant, Mo., and earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2017 and his master’s degree in education in 2019, both from Quincy.
