A native of Alexandria, Minn., Dallas Charles takes over as head coach at Bemidji State in 2019-20 following four years at Northern Arizona University where he was an assistant strength and conditioning coach.
In two years as an assistant coach at NAU and two as graduate assistant coach, Charles was directly responsible for designing and implementing year-round strength and conditioning programs for the Lumberjacks’ women’s swimming and track and field teams, while assisting with all aspects of training, practice and travel for football and other programs. He also assisted with the development of the graduate assistant coaches and developed a professional internship program, including a complete manual and curriculum.
While at NAU, Charles contributed directly to Big Sky Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships (2017 and 2018) and an outdoor conference title (2017) as well as a 2018 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship.
Prior to his time in Flagstaff, Ariz., he was a student assistant with the strength and conditioning staff at fellow Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference member Minnesota State University Moorhead. At MSUM, he worked with a wide variety of sports teams including football, wrestling, soccer, golf, tennis and swimming and diving. Charles was also a strength and conditioning intern with North Dakota State University football from 2014 to 2015, where he was a part of two Missouri Valley titles and a pair of NCAA FCS national championships. He also spent a year at the University of Montana working with football, basketball, soccer, softball and the track and field sprinters/hurdlers.
Charles attended MSU Moorhead and graduated in 2016 with a degree in exercise science. He also completed his Master’s Degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona in 2018. Charles is CSCS and CPR/AED certified.
