Erickson and Vollbrecht garner Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week honors

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University’s Amy Erickson (Sr., Roseau, Minn.) and Brent Vollbrecht (Sr., Morristown, Minn.) have been selected as Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week for outstanding performances from March 16-22.

Erickson was one of two BSU tennis players to notch victories in singles play this weekend. She won a match 6-1, 6-3 from the sixth spot this past Saturday against Upper Iowa University.

Erickson is 8-3 in singles play this year, with seven of those victories coming in straight sets. She also has an outstanding 8-1 mark during Northern Sun Intercollegiate Hockey Association play, and is tied with Nicole Christiansen (Fr., Bemidji, Minn.) for the best mark on the team.

Vollbrecht pitched the second game of the second doubleheader this past weekend against Wayne State College. He dropped to 1-2 on the season after allowed five runs on five hits in 5.1 innings pitched. He struck out and walked two.

Vollbrecht has a season earned run average of 6.93, and has thrown 24.2 innings this year. He has struck out 12 and only walked seven this season.

The baseball team will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., to take on Augustana College in four games Mar. 28-29. Both doubleheaders will begin at 12 p.m.

The tennis team has three matches this weekend, beginning with a 2:00 p.m. tussle on Mar. 28 against St. Benedicts in St. Cloud, Minn. The following day, the Beavers will do battle with both Winona State University at 10:00 a.m. and St. Mary’s University at 1:00 p.m. The second day of tennis will be played in Winona, Minn.
