Milless and Sander garner Beaver Pride’s weekly honors
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University’s Miranda Milless (So., Motley, Minn.) and Ryan Sander (Jr., RHP/1B, St. James, Minn.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week after outstanding athletic accomplishments during the week of March 29-April 5.

Milless accounted for both of the BSU tennis team’s points in a 7-2 loss to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) foe Southwest Minnesota State University Friday at Gillett Recreation/Fitness Center. Milless and her doubles partner Cheyanne Maki (Watford City, N.D.) posted an 8-6 victory over the Mustangs’ pair of Amy Daniels and Angie Wiegmann at No. 3 doubles before the sophomore recorded the Beavers’ lone point in singles play with a straight-sets win, 7-5, 6-2, over SMSU’s No. 6 singles player Katie Carlson.

This week’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week award marks the first time during the 2009-10 campaign that the organization has honored Milless, while it stands as the second award for a member of the BSU women’s tennis team.

Sander returned to the Beavers’ line-up April 2-3 versus Winona State University after missing eight games due to injury. He batted .500 as BSU went 1-3 against the then-No. 29 Warriors. He hit 6-for-12 with a double, scoring four runs and adding three RBI. Sander walked twice, totaling seven bases in the four games. At first base he recorded 39 putouts to increase his season total to a team-high 121. Sander went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run in his first game back. In the 8-7 win against WSU April 2 he was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and two runs scored.
