Beavers finish spring trip 5-1 with 5-2 win against Rockford
MESA, Ariz. — The Bemidji State University baseball team finished its spring trip at the RussMatt Greater Phoenix Invitational 5-1 and improved to 7-3 overall Friday with a 5-2 victory against Rockford College. Five different BSU pitchers allowed zero earned runs in the game.

The contest was a 0-0 contest until the Beavers scored two in the top of the fourth inning. Freshman Tyler Nelson (3B, Hayfield, Minn.) delivered a two out single that scored the first two runs for BSU. The Beaver pitching staff continued to shutdown the bats of Rockford and added a run in the top of the seventh before the Regents scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth to make the score 3-2.

The Beavers added some insurance runs in the top of the ninth, scoring two on four hits and was guided by a Rockford error. The Regents left two on base in the ninth, but junior Jaryd Marks (RHP/1B, Cottage Grove, Minn.) was able to pick-up a two inning save - his second of the season. Sophomore right-hander Miles Campbell (Eden Prairie, Minn.) earned the win, pitching two innings, allowing two hits and fanning two batters. Really it was a team victory as junior Ryan Van Someren (RHP, Milaca, Minn.) started and threw two, senior Kaleb Dingman (RHP, Rawling, Wyo.) pitched one and junior Logan Kalis (RHP, Little Falls, Minn.) hurled two frames for BSU.

Sophomore Chad Hanson (OF, St. Paul, Minn.), sophomore Kean Paxton (2B, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and junior Lewis Baumann (MIF, Colorado Springs, Colo.) each tallied two hits. Hanson had two runs scored, while Paxton had two RBIs.

The Beavers now travel to Wayne State College to close nonconference play March 17-18.
