Campbell named Academic All-District First-Team

BEMIDJI, Minn. ­—  Bemidji State University baseball student-athlete sophomore right-hander Miles Campbell (Eden Prairie, Minn.) has been named Capital One All-Academic All-District 7 College Division First-Team, selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), for his hard work and dedication in the classroom. 

Campbell owns a 3.93 GPA in biology and is the first BSU baseball student-athlete to be named to the academic all-district since Josh Silvernagel earned third-team honors in 2010.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Campbell is 3-4 this season with a 6.49 ERA in 12 appearances. He has allowed 47 runs (38 earned) on 80 hits in 52.2 innings of work. The sophomore has fanned 38 batters and his 6.49 strikeouts per game mark ranks 19th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Campbell has issued just 12 walks to rank tied for seventh in the league in least amount of walks (1.0 IP/Game). He has allowed a .352 opponent batting average this season. In conference play, Campbell is 2-2 and owns a 5.79 ERA with 29 strikeouts.

The BSU baseball team is now 21-25 overall and is seventh in the NSIC standings with a 14-18 conference mark and remains in the hunt for one of six spots in the 2012 NSIC Tournament. BSU caps its 2012 regular season with four games at Northern State University May 5-6.

The nominee must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials. Position players must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games in the position listed on the nomination form.  Pitchers must have at least 10.0 innings pitched. Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale). Nominees must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one calendar year.
