Beavers travel to the Metrodome to battle Wayne State

The Bemidji State University baseball team heads to the H.H.H. Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. to battle Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference-foe Wayne State College Feb. 21 in a nonconfernece doubleheader beginning at 9:15 p.m.

About Bemidji State
The Bemidji State baseball team went 1-3 to begin the 2013 season Feb. 15-16 at the NSIC Metrodome Classic. BSU suffered 4-2 and 7-2 losses to Northern State University in the opener, then split a doubleheader with University of Sioux Falls. The Beavers fell 2-1 in game one with the Cougars, but bounced back and posted an 8-1 victory on 13 hits – which matched the total hits from the previous three games combined. BSU got five shutout innings from junior Miles Campbell in the win, as he allowed just two hits and fanned three batters. Three players posted three-hit games in the victory versus USF.

About Wayne State
Wayne State opened the 2013 season Feb. 15 with a split against Minot State University at the NSIC Metrodome Classic.  The Wildcats won the opener 2-0, while the Beavers posted a 2-1 win over WSC in the second game. Feb. 16, No. 15 St. Cloud State University recorded a sweep of the Wildcats. The Huskies won the first game 5-0 and captured the second game by an 8-1 score. WSC is 1-3 on the season.

Last Action vs WSC
Last season the Beavers traveled to Wayne, Neb. for a nonconference four-game tune-up before starting the NSIC season. The Beavers went 0-4 on the trip, losing 6-0 and 11-3 the first day and 9-2 and 2-1 in the second doubleheader.

Series Note
Head coach Tim Bellew is 3-25 all-time against the Wildcats as the BSU skipper, but has never faced WSC on neutral territory.

Team Notes
• The Beavers are getting outscored 7-5 in the first two innings of play this season.
• BSU is 1-1 when scoring first.

Player/Pitcher Notes
• Junior Zach Braun recorded a hit in every game last weekend and is on a four-game hitting streak.
• Senior Lewis Baumann owns a three-game hitting streak.
