Beaver Pride names Dupay and Baumann Athletes of the Week

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University student-athletes Nicole Dupay (OF, R/R, Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) and Lewis Baumann (SS, R/R, Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week after recording outstanding athletic performances during the week of March 25-31.

In an Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference-opening split with University of Minnesota Crookston, Dupay finished the day 5-for-7 with three RBIs and three runs scored, getting BSU on the board for the only time in a 9-1 loss and powering her team to a 10-4 victory in game two. Bemidji State scored just twice in its final four games of the weekend and Dupay accounted for one run, her team-best 20th of the season, when she crossed home plate against Concordia University, St. Paul.

Dupay is hitting .449 with a .500 on base percentage on the season to lead the Beavers. She is one of two players on the BSU roster to start all 23 games and is also perfect in the field thus far.

Dupay’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week selection marks her second of the season and for the BSU softball team, as the junior earned the honor March 20.

Baumann posted a .400 (6-for-15) batting average in the NSIC opener against Concordia-St. Paul March 29-30. He recorded game-winning hits in the two BSU wins in the 2-2 split with CU. One of his two home runs Friday was a two-run shot that gave BSU the 2-0 lead in the top of the 10th inning and would serve as the only runs of the game. In the series finale, Baumann capped a four-run fourth with a single to left that plated what would be the winning run in the 7-6 victory. On the weekend he added four RBIs, two runs and 12 total bases. He recorded a .800 slugging percentage, .400 on-base percentage, stole a base and totaled 12 assists with five putouts and one error for a .944 fielding percentage.

The senior continues to lead the league in batting average (.443), slugging percentage (.786), total bases (55) and home runs (5).

This week’s award marks the second of the season for Baumann and the BSU baseball team in 2013, as the senior was also selected March 20.

The Beavers (11-9, 2-2 NSIC) continue league play Wednesday with a doubleheader at Wayne State College beginning at 1:30 p.m.

The BSU softball squad (7-16, 1-5 NSIC) battles Minot State University Wednesday in an NSIC doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
