BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University’s Lyndsey Peterson (OF, So., Cottonwood, Minn.) and Nate Heisick (LHP, RS-So., Plymouth, Minn.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week, after outstanding athletic performances during the week of March 24-31.

Peterson led the Bemidji State softball team in a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheaders March 30-31, as she finished with a .400 batting average (4-for-10) and posted a .700 slugging percentage. The sophomore outfielder went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI against Concordia University, St. Paul. She recorded her second home run of the season and fourth of her career against the Golden Bears.

This week’s honor marks the first of Peterson’s career and the second of 2014 for a member of the BSU softball team. Nicole Dupay (OF, Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) earned the award March 26.

Heisick went 2-0 and posted a 0.00 ERA in 4.1 relief innings between March 25-30. He faced 19 batters and allowed one unearned run on just two hits (.133 opposing batting average). The sophomore recorded four strikeouts and walked three. Against Kansas Wesleyan University March 25, Heisick pitched two innings and allowed two hits with one strikeout. In an NSIC win against Upper Iowa University March 30, he pitched 2.1 innings and didn't allow a hit with three strikeouts.

This week’s honor marks the first of Heisick’s career and the third of the season for a member of the Beaver baseball team. He follows teammate Zach Braun (C, Sr., Lakeville, Minn.), the March 12 recipient and Tyler Saeugling (RHP, Jr., Dubuque, Iowa), the March 26 honoree.

The Bemidji State baseball team (7-8, 1-1 NSIC) continues NSIC play today when it travels to Augustana College (17-7, 7-1 NSIC) for a doubleheader. The league twin bill is slated for a 2:30 p.m. start.
