No. 2 St. Cloud State takes two against the Beavers

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Bemidji State University baseball team took to the road Wednesday for midweek dual against No. 2 St. Cloud State University at Joe Faber Field. The Beavers started both games out strong but were unable to hang on as the high-powered offense of the Huskies took off, falling by scores of 15-3 and 17-1.

Bemidji State, now 10-31, 7-19 NSIC, will take the weekend off and come back to end its road stand at Southwest Minnesota State University, April 29, before ending its regular season at home against University of Mary, May 1-2. The Huskies improve to 37-3 overall and 21-3 in the NSIC with the sweep.

Bemidji State Highlights

  • In the series, Joey Hanowski led the Beavers playing in both games as he batted.500 going 3-for-6 from the plate and added one RBI. Hanowski was the only Beaver to have three hits in the doubleheader.
  • Jake Braun and Logan Riedel each appeared in one game as they were 1-for-1 and 1-for-2, respectively.
  • Hanowski, Riedel, Tyler Nelson and Mason Bellew each recorded one run in the series against St. Cloud State.
  • Jack Hegarty, Bellew, and Collin Eckman posted doubles in game one of the duo, while Nelson put up his in the second.
  • Terry Hadden was the pitcher of record in game one after four innings, while Riedel earned the loss in game two in 1.2 innings of work. Hadden allowed 11 hits and eight runs to now sit 3-6 on the year. Riedel let up nine hits and allowed 10 earned runs, which puts him 1-1 on the mound this season.  
  • Ben Boser saw three innings of action in game two pitching effectively to only give up one hit and struck out three batters. 

St. Cloud State Highlights

  • In game one, the Huskies outhit the Beavers 19-9 in the 15-3 victory.
  • At the plate, SCSU was paced by Eric Loxtercamp, Karl Sorensen (also had three runs) and Kyle Lieser with three hits apiece in game one.  
  • Max Ditty also had two hits, three RBIs and one RBI in the contest, while Zak Hoffman had two hits, three runs and three RBIs.
  • On the mound, Garrett Harrison was the pitcher of record with four strikeouts and six hits allowed in five innings of work.
  • In game two, SCSU outhit the Beavers 17-4 as Sheldon Miks posted the win for SCSU.  Miks allowed three hits in the game and had one strikeout to push his record to 7-0 in 2015.
  • Mike Jurgella carded a home run in the game and also had three runs, three hits and two RBIs for the Huskies.  
  • Eric Loxtercamp also had three runs, three hits (including a triple) and three RBIs while Brandon Arnold belted a triple and also had two hits and two runs.
