Lesinski Shines as Beavers Split

BISMARCK, N.D. (Bismarck Municipal Ballpark) -  The Bemidji State baseball team split the day with the University of Mary by scores of 6-0 and 5-8. Mark Lesinski threw a complete game in the first contest of the day where he struck out nine batters and only allowed four hits.

In the top of the fourth inning Mason Bellew doubled to left field and was then drove in with a Matt Mastantuono double to left center field. The scoring continued when Matthew Wixon singled through the right side of the infield that scored Logan Riedel. A throwing error on the same play allowed Mastantuono to score and Wixon to advance to second base.

The Beavers added two runs in the top of the sixth inning when Mastantuono reached on an error then advanced on walks by Joey Hanowski and Collin Eckman. Mastanuono and Eckman scored when Gunner Olszewski singled with the bases full.

Scott Litchy led off the top of the seventh inning with a double and was drove in a few batters later when Riedel doubled to left center field, adding one more run to the Beavers total.

The Beavers got their third straight complete game from a starter, this time from Mark Lesinski (2-6). Lesinski pitched seven complete innings with nine strikeouts, no earned runs and scattered four hits.

Gunner Olszewski was 3-4 with two RBIs while Joey Hanowski walked three times and Matt Mastantuono scored two runs along with drving in one.

Bemidji State started their scoring in the top of the third inning when Hanowski reached on a fielder's and was then moved around by singles from Olszewski and Tyler Nelson.

In the top of the fifth inning the Beavers wroked them into a bases loaded situation. The University of Mary ended up allowing two runs on an error off the bat of Litchy. That was followed up by a single by Bellew that scored Nelson to give Bemidji State the lead.

With the Beavers trailing in the top of the sixth inning, Ben Boser tripled to deep right centerfield and scored when Eckman doubled to right field to tack one more run.

Ryan Fransen (1-5) was the pitcher of record for the Beavers. He struck out four batters but allowed seven earned runs. Nate Heisick pitched 0.2 innings were he recorded one strikeout and was followed up by Logan Reidel who pitched three innings, striking out three batters.

Bemidji State recorded nine hits with Collin Eckman going 2-3 with a double and a triple. Joey Hanowski walked three times.

The Beavers wrap up the season at home on Wednesday, May 4 with two games versus Southwest Minnesota State starting at 2 o'clock.
