MARSHALL, Minn. (Alumni Field) -- Bemidji State University baseball capped off its Friday sweep of Southwest Minnesota State University with a go-ahead, nine-run eighth inning in game two at Alumni Field in Marshall, Minn. BSU (15-29, 12-20 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) were led by four combined RBI on the day from junior Scott Litchy and three RBI from senior Logan Riedel to take 5-1 and 14-5 wins over the Mustangs (13-29, 8-24 NSIC).

Game One
Litchy played a part in the first three runs scored by Bemidji State to begin game one, first giving BSU a 1-0 lead after hitting into a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the third that led to an error and a run by senior Ben Boser. Senior Collin Eckman led off the fifth inning with a double to right field that led to an RBI single to right center field by Litchy. Litchy, reaching third on two stolen bases, was brought home on a passed ball to put the Beavers up, 3-0. The first two Bemidji State batters of the sixth inning reached base and were brought home two batters later on a two-RBI double by Boser, giving the Beavers a 5-0 lead.

BSU starting pitcher Riedel (3-4) threw the team’s third consecutive complete game in the win with seven strikeouts and one earned run allowed on seven hits. Mustangs pitcher Justin Clark (1-6) took the loss after giving up four earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts.

Game Two
Southwest Minnesota State opened the game with one run in the first inning and one more in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead early. A solo home run by Riedel in the fifth inning and a run scored by Olszewski on an error in the sixth put BSU up, 5-2. The Mustangs tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the eighth on an RBI single and two-RBI single.
