BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Board of Directors voted unanimously to suspend all activities related to intercollegiate athletics and cancel the remaining 2020 spring conference competition and championships due to concerns of the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, late Sunday.
The continued suspension of all countable athletically related activities (CARA) for all 18 NSIC sports remains in effect. The conference will re-evaluate CARA on or before April 1st.
In turn, Bemidji State University has suspended all athletic activities, including practices, effective immediately, until further notice.
These unprecedented actions have been made in an attempt ensure the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and fans.
In addition to the cancelation of 2020 spring competition, the NCAA previously canceled all winter and spring championships. NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors canceled the Division I men's and women's 2020 basketball tournaments, as well as ALL remaining winter and spring NCAA championships. The announcement came on Thursday, March 12.
BSU, in consultation with Minnesota State colleges and universities system, the NCAA, NSIC and WCHA, will continue to monitor all relevant information regarding COVID-19 to make any further decisions regarding future athletic events.
