BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- Bemidji State University baseball junior first baseman/designated hitter Sam Kalberer was announced as a member of the 2021 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Conference Second Team. Kalberer is the first Beaver named to the all-conference team since 2018.
The award is the first of Kalberer’s career after starting all 38 games played in during his junior season. Kalberer, a Tucson, Ariz., native, finished the season on a 30-game on-base streak, the longest such streak for the program since at least 2007. He led Bemidji State with a .427 on-base percentage, 43 hits, which ranks 16th in the conference, and 22 walks, which ranks 10th..
Kalberer totaled nine multiple hit and four multiple RBI games and recorded the team’s longest hitting streak of the season at 13 games. He hit .326 from the plate and fielded 98.2 percent to rank second on the Beavers.
Minnesota State University, Mankato senior outfielder Joey Werner earned the NSIC Player of the Year and teammate sophomore Collin Denk was selected as the NSIC Pitcher of the Year. Werner was also named the NSIC Newcomer of the Year while MSU head coach Matt Magers earned NSIC Coach of the Year. The University of Mary freshman Calvin James earned NSIC Freshman of the Year.
