MINOT, N.D. (Corbett Field) -- Senior Sam Kalberer recorded his fifth home run of the season as Bemidji State University baseball fell in a doubleheader sweep at Minot State University, 4-2 and 5-3. Kalberer led BSU with three hits on the day as Bemidji State falls to 5-38 overall and 2-27 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Game One – MiSU, 4-2

Minot State struck first in the third inning with an RBI double followed by a second run scored on a passed ball to give it a 2-0 lead. Junior John Perkins recorded an RBI double in the top of the fourth inning, driving in junior James Wirt to cut the MiSU lead to 2-1.

Minot State added another two runs in the fourth inning on an RBI double and an RBI single before Kalberer recorded his first home run since April 10. Six of BSU’s next seven batters were retired over the final two innings.

Kalberer was the only Beaver with multiple hits, going 2-of-3 from the plate with one walk. BSU left seven runners on base through the game, including six through the first four innings.

Freshman Isaiah Biehn (0-5) threw a complete game at 6.0 innings with three strikeouts, no walks and two earned runs allowed.

Game Two – MiSU, 5-3

Biehn, playing right field during game two, reached base on a hit by pitch in the top of the first inning followed by a double play to end the top half. Minot State scored first again with an RBI double and a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead. After the first inning, junior Jackson Back (1-2) retired 12 of the next 13 MiSU batters to hold the deficit at two through the fifth.

Perkins recorded his second RBI of the day on a double in the top of the fifth inning following a leadoff walk and a sacrifice bunt. Keohen scored to cut the deficit to 2-1 while one runner was left on base.

BSU left one runner on base over each of the next three innings, allowing MiSU to score on a solo home run in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh for a 5-1 lead.

Senior Parker Borg led off the top of the ninth inning with his fourth double of the season to set up an RBI single from Wirt during the next at-bat. With two runners on base and two outs, freshman Hunter Daymond singled up the middle to cut the deficit to two, 5-3. Both runners on first and second base advanced on a wild pitch before a ground out ended the game.

Seven different batters accounted for BSU’s seven hits, including RBI hits from Daymond, Wirt and Perkins. Senior Tom Keoehn went 1-of-2 from the plate with two runs scored and one walk. Bemidji State left eight runners on base and went 3-of-12 with runners in scoring position.
