Gordie Haug begins his fifth season as a part of the BSU coaching staff and his first as an assistant coach after serving two season’s  as a graduate assistant coach. After working two seasons as a student assistant for linebackers, his primary responsibility as a graduate assistant was overseeing the Beavers’ running backs and assist in strength and conditioning. Now as an assistant he will return to the Gang Green defense and serve as the defensive line coach.

In his first season as running back coach, Haug guided freshman Dustin Kroeplin to the top-half of the conference in rushing and a spot on the honorable mention all-conference squad. The hard-nosed back led the team in rushing yards per game (86.5) and rushing touchdowns (10).

In his second season as a graduate assistant coach the offense rushed for more than 290 yards on three occasions. Kroeplin ran for 200 yards against Northern State (Oct. 30) to record the 19th 200-plus yard game at BSU since 1980 and the first since 2004. He finished the season as a Second-Team All-NSIC pick after he posted 80.2 yards per game and nine touchdowns on the ground.

Haug began his association with the Bemidji State football program in the fall of 2005 as a student-athlete. After two seasons as a linebacker, he hung up his cleats and made a move to the sidelines as a student-assistant coach. Since 2007, he’s been involved with coaching on offense, defense and special teams, while recruiting and working in strength and conditioning.

In addition to his role on the BSU football coaching staff, Haug has been an advocate for healthy living both within the campus community and in the surrounding area. He served as the Chapter Coordinator for the NCAA CHOICES Program at BSU during the 2008-09 academic year and has been a Diabetes Educator at the Leech Lake Diabetes Center.

Haug, a Crookston, Minn. native, is a 2005 graduate of Crookston High School.
