Rob Aurich enters his fourth season in 2017 as an assistant coach, including his first stint as the defensive coordinator, for the Bemidji State football program. Aurich, an All-American linebacker and two-time national champion at Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's University of Minnesota Duluth.

In 2017, for the second year in a row, the Beavers defense was ranked fifth in the conference allowing 299.3 yards per game with just 4.1 yards per play. Improving in rankings from last year, BSU was second in sacks with 34. Aurich helped guide nine defensive players to 2017 All-NSIC team honors, including three members on the first team defense. He oversaw the defense that landed senior safety Evan Tompkins on the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team and junior safety John Vogeler on the 2017 D2CCA All-Super Region Four First Team.

In 2016 the Beaver Gang Green defense ranked fifth in the NSIC allowing 394 yards per game but just 4.9 yards per play on their way to a record 9 total wins and the programs first post season win in the Mineral Water Bowl.  They also ranked fifth in the conference with 33 sacks and linebackers Trysten Ross and Jamison Evans were selected to the All-NSIC First Team Defense.

In 2015 the Gang Green linebacking corps helped create the third best rush defense in the conference that only allowed an average of 113.8 yards per game. They also contributed in 30 sacks which was fourth highest in the conference. Linebackers Colton Blascyk and Greg Button were named First Team All-NSIC while playing under Coach Aurich in 2015.

Prior to his assignment at BSU, Aurich was using his Bachelor of Arts degree in criminology as an Outside Account Executive at Livingston International in Chicago. Before his most recent job, he worked as an account executive in Chicago and as a paralegal intern in Duluth, Minnesota.

A two-time captain, Aurich was named Daktronics and D2Football.com First Team All-American in 2009 and was honored as an honorable mention in 2010. He finished his career second at Minnesota Duluth in career tackles (310), while helping the Bulldogs to National Championships in 2008 and 2010. A three-time All-NSIC selection, Aurich was named first team in 2009 and 2010, while being named NSIC Defensive Player of the Year in 2009. He also earned Daktronics Super Region 4 Defensive Player of the Year in 2009.

A Spring Lake, Mich., native, Aurich completed his criminology bachelor's degree from Minnesota Duluth in 2010 and a master’s degree from Bemidji State in business administration in 2015.
