Erickson and Ellisor garner Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week honors
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University athletes Emily Erickson (R-Jr., F, Coleraine, Minn.) and James Ellisor (Sr., F, Glendale, Ariz.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week after recording outstanding athletic performances during the week of Nov. 14-20.

Erickson helped catapult the Beavers to their second-ever victory over historic program University of Minnesota Duluth Sunday in a 4-3 effort from Bemidji State. The redshirt junior tallied two goals and one assist to lead BSU in scoring. Her first goal of the game knotted the Beavers and Bulldogs at 1-1 after BSU had gone down 1-0 early in the game. Her second goal came on a breakaway in the third period and was unassisted. She also added an assist on Sadie Lundquist’s game-winning goal. Friday, Erickson assisted on Montana Vichorek’s power-play goal, the lone goal Bemidji State would score in a 4-1 loss. She tallied nine shots on goal in two games and was +1 for the weekend. Erickson had missed the previous three games for BSU coming into this weekend’s series against No. 6 Minnesota Duluth.

This week’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week selection is the second of the season and third of Erickson’s career. It marks the fourth occasion a member of the BSU women’s hockey team has been recognized during the 2011-12 campaign, as junior Erika Wheelhouse (Jr., D, Crookston, Minn.), Erickson and Montana Vichorek (Sr., D, Moose Lake, Minn.) earned the award in consecutive weeks Oct. 12-26.

Ellisor guided the Beavers to a 68-49 home opener victory Sunday against University of Sioux Falls with 27 points and a career-high 15 rebounds (four offensive). He went 11-for-18 (61.15) from the field, 1-for-2 (50%) from 3-point land and 4-for-5 (80%) from the charity stripe. He also added a game-high four assists and tied for game-highs in steals (2) and blocks (2). In 36 minutes of playing time he only turned the ball over once. The Beavers closed the game against the future NSIC members with a 20-3 run during the final 7:12. Over that span, Ellisor contributed seven points, four rebounds, an assist, steal and a block. In three games this season, Ellisor is averaging 23.3 points and 11.0 rebounds, while shooting 54.2 percent from the field.

In addition to Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week honors, Ellisor was also named NSIC Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

Ellisor’s award marks the first time this season a member of the men’s basketball team has been selected for Beaver Pride’s weekly award. It is Ellisor’s fifth career honor from the organization.
