Beavers rank top 25 nationally in four categories

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team is ranked in the top 25 nationally in four different categories according to the recent NCAA Statistics Rankings (296 ranked, games through Jan. 22). The Beavers boast the No. 3 spot in turnovers per game with 10.7 giveaways per contest. The BSU women’s basketball team sits 5th in the nation in free throw percentage with a 78.8 percent clip.

Individuals are also making their mark on the nation, as senior Bryce Tesdahl (G, Crosby, Minn.) is No. 6 in assist/turnover ratio (3.1 ratio) and senior James Ellisor (F, Glendale, Ariz.) is No. 9 in points per game (22.1 ppg).

The Beavers have a No. 9 ranking in assist/turnover ratio (1.37), thanks mostly to Tesdahl’s spot at sixth. The team also sits among the nation’s leaders in personal fouls per game with 15.9 that ranks No. 20.

BSU ranks 23rd in 3-point percentage, shooting at a 39.5 percent clip. The high 3-point percentage is guided by a 75.0 percent (15-for-20) evening Dec. 17 against University of Mary that ranks fourth in the nation in 3-point percentage in a game (minimum 10 3-pointers made). Sitting tied for 16th in 2011-12 is the Beavers’ performance against University of Minnesota, Crookston Dec. 3 when it shot 10-for-15 (66.7%) from beyond the arc.
Tesdahl also ranks No. 12 in assists per game with a 5.9 mark. He recorded a career-high and 2011-12 NSIC-best 12 assists Jan. 14 in a home win against Concordia University, St. Paul that is tied for 16th in a single game by an individual this season.     

Ellisor posted a 91.7 percentage (11-for-12) from the field against Southwest Minnesota State University Jan. 21 that ranks tied for eighth in the nation for field goal percentage in a game (minimum 10 FG made).   

The Bemidji State men’s team owns a 14-5 overall and 9-4 NSIC record to sit tied for third in the conference standings. In program history, the 2011-12 squad is the fastest to 14 wins since the 1972-73 team posted a matching 14-5 record through 19 games. The Beavers are on the road for their next three games, starting Jan. 27-28 at University of Mary and Northern State University.
