Lee and Ellisor garner Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week honors
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University athletes Morgan Lee (So., G, 5-7, Hayward, Wis.) and James Ellisor (Sr., F, 6-5, Glendale, Ariz.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week after recording outstanding athletic performances during the week of Jan. 15-21.

Lee averaged 20.5 points per game, posted a 51.9 percent from the field and 56.3 percent from 3-point land, guiding the Bemidji State women’s basketball team to a 2-0 NSIC home weekend. She posted back-to-back 20 point performances for the first time in her career. Lee scored 21 points, shot 61.5 percent (8-for-13) from the field, 50 percent (5-for-10) from beyond the arc and added three steals in the 72-71 victory against Minnesota State Friday. The win snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Beavers, while ending an eight-game win streak for the Mavericks. The following night, she scored 20 points in the 77-54 win against Southwest Minnesota State, shooting 42.9 percent (6-for-14) from the field, 66.7 percent (4-for-6) from downtown, 4-for-4 from the line and added two steals. On the weekend she averaged 34.5 minutes per game and added three assists and three rebounds.

January 20, Lee established career-highs for 3-pointers made (5) and 3-pointers attempted (10), white tying career-marks in field goals made (8) and steals (3). She now leads the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game.

This week’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week selection marks the first of the season for Lee and the fifth occasion a member of the BSU women’s basketball team has been recognized for the award in 2011-12. Lee follows Shannon Thompson (Jr., G, Rosemount, Minn.), who garnered the award Nov. 9,  Dec. 7 and Dec. 14 selection Kate Warmack (So., C, East Grand Forks, Minn.) and Ellie Wessling (So., G/F, Winsted, Minn.), who was recognized Dec. 21.

Ellisor tied a career-high 34 points in the BSU men’s basketball team’s 75-67 win against Minnesota State Jan. 20 before scoring a game-high 26 in the 70-56 victory versus Southwest Minnesota State University Jan. 21. From the start of the second half of the game against MSU, through the SMSU contest, Ellisor missed just two shots from the field (19-for-21) and on the weekend he shot 24-for-29 (82.8%). He went 11-for-12 (91.7%) from the charity stripe and hit his only 3-point attempt. He played in 35.5 minutes per game and added five steals, two assists and one block.

His 13 field goals made against MSU was a career-high and is tied for second in the NSIC in 2011-12. The 91.7 percentage shooting (11-for-12) against SMSU ranks as the best field goal shooting performance in the NSIC this season.   

Ellisor’s 22.1 points per game leads the NSIC.

This week’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week award is the fifth of the season for Ellisor and sixth for the BSU men’s basketball team. In addition to being selected Nov. 23, Nov. 30, Jan. 4 and Jan. 11., Ellisor is joined by Bryce Tesdahl (Sr., G, Crosby, Minn.) who was last week’s selection.

The BSU women’s and men’s basketball teams are on the road Jan. 27-28 at University of Mary and Northern State University. Women’s games are slated to begin at 6 p.m. each night with the men to follow at 8 p.m.
