BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team is ranked in the top 30 nationally in four different categories and the BSU women’s team is ranked top 25 in three categories according to the recent NCAA Statistics Rankings (games through Feb. 12). The Beaver men boast the No. 2 spot in turnovers per game with 10.4 giveaways per contest. The BSU women’s basketball team sits No. 4 in the nation in free throw percentage with a 78.0 percent clip.
Individuals are also making their mark on the nation, as senior Bryce Tesdahl (G, Crosby, Minn.) is No. 4 in assist/turnover ratio (3.19 ratio) and senior James Ellisor (F, Glendale, Ariz.) is No. 8 in points per game (21.5 ppg).
The Beavers have a No. 7 ranking in assist/turnover ratio (1.41), thanks mostly to Tesdahl’s spot at fourth. The team sits among the nation’s leaders in least amount of personal fouls per game with 16.0 that ranks No. 23.
The BSU men’s team also ranks 26th in 3-point percentage, shooting at a 38.8 percent clip. The high 3-point percentage is guided by a 75.0 percent (15-for-20) evening Dec. 17 against University of Mary that ranks fourth in the nation in 3-point percentage in a game (minimum 10 3-pointers made). Sitting tied for 19th in 2011-12 is the Beavers’ performance against University of Minnesota, Crookston Dec. 3 when it shot 10-for-15 (66.7%) from beyond the arc.
Tesdahl also ranks No. 11 in assists per game with a 6.3 mark. He recorded a career-high and 2011-12 NSIC-best 12 assists Jan. 14 in a home win against Concordia University, St. Paul, then matched Feb. 10 in a win at home versus Minnesota, Crookston. That mark is tied for 20th in a single game by an individual this season.
Ellisor posted a 91.7 percentage (11-for-12) from the field against Southwest Minnesota State University Jan. 21 that ranks tied for 10th in the nation for field goal percentage in a game (minimum 10 FG made). He ranks 30th in field goal percentage with a 56.6 percent mark this season.
The women’s team is guided in free throw percentage by junior Shannon Thompson (G, Rosemount, Minn.). She ranks No. 33 nationally with an 84.8 percentage (minimum 2.5 FT made per game). The Beavers are ranked No. 15 in 3-point field goal percentage with a 36.3 percent clip. Sophomore Morgan Lee (G, Hayward, Wis.) is shooting 40.6 percent from beyond the arc to rank No. 22 in the category (minimum 2 made per game). She is 36th in 3-pointers made (2.4 per game) to guide the Beavers to the No. 24 spot in 3-pointers made per game with 7.2 per contest.
The Bemidji State men’s team owns a 17-7 overall and 12-6 NSIC record to sit tied for fifth in the conference standings. The women’s team is 8-15 overall with a 6-12 NSIC mark that ranks tied for 11th. The Beavers close their road portion of the regular season schedule at Southwest Minnesota State University and Minnesota State University, Mankato Feb. 17-18.
