Boschee unveils 2018-19 Men’s Basketball schedule

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The 2018-19 Bemidji State University men’s basketball schedule will feature early Division I competition and a trip to Florida as head coach Mike Boschee announced the full season slate Thursday. The Beavers begin their home schedule Nov. 12 with Bemidji Youth Basketball Day while the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season begins Dec. 1 at home against University of Minnesota Crookston.

Bemidji State opens the 97th season of men’s basketball with three exhibitions, beginning with a trip to Valley City State University Oct. 27 to face former Beavers assistant coach Ryan Montgomery. BSU’s final two exhibitions will come as road contests against Division I opponents University of Northern Iowa, Nov. 6, and South Dakota State University Nov. 10.

The regular season and home opener is set for Nov. 12 against Oak Hills Christian College, which will also be Bemidji Youth Basketball Day at BSU Gymnasium. The tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with youth events beginning earlier in the day. BSU follows with the final home game of the non-conference schedule Nov. 17 against Northland College.

The Beavers will travel to West Palm Beach, Fla., Nov. 20-21 to take part in the Palm Beach Atlantic Classic. BSU opens the two-game tournament Nov. 20 against the site’s host, Palm Beach Atlantic University, followed on Nov. 21 with a neutral-site game versus University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon.

Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston tip-off the NSIC season with the 65th installment of the Highway 2 series Dec. 1 at BSU Gymnasium. The conference-opener is the first of five consecutive homes games for BSU, with weekend matchups Dec. 7-8 against Northern State University Friday and Minnesota State University Saturday and Dec. 15-16 against Wayne State College and Augustana University. The Beavers travel for their final game of the 2018 calendar year Dec. 30 in the series finale against the Golden Eagles in Crookston, Minn.

BSU will play four games at home and away in each of the months of January and February. Northern Minnesota rivals University of Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State University begin the first BSU home games of the month, Jan. 4-5, while Upper Iowa University and Winona State University play in Bemidji Jan. 18-19.

The home matchups in the final month of the season include Concordia University-St. Paul and Minnesota State University, Mankato, Feb. 8-9, and University of Mary and Minot State University, Feb. 15-16.

Game times during the NSIC schedule were moved up by 30 minutes during normal Friday/Saturday weekends. Beginning Jan. 4, each Friday game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. while each Saturday game is scheduled for tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
