Landwehr double-double not enough in 85-58 BSU loss at SCSU

BEMIDJI, Minn. (BSU Gymnasium) -- Freshman forward Cody Landwehr recorded his second career double-double in his last three games but the effort was not enough for the Bemidji State University men’s basketball team Friday night in an 85-58 loss at St. Cloud State University. Landwehr ended the game with a team-high 18 points and 10 rebounds on 9-of-12 shooting from the field.

Bemidji State fell behind early, 8-2, but came back to tie and take a lead following a 9-2 run. Sophomore guard Jacob Hoffman hit a 3-pointer to put BSU ahead, 11-10, while Landwehr scored four points during the stretch. BSU began to fall behind following a 16-2 run by SCSU, who held the Beavers to 1-for-5 from the field while taking advantage of four BSU turnovers. The Huskies extended the 13-point, 26-13 lead while holding the Beavers to 38.5 percent shooting from the field and taking away 11 turnovers during the first half.

Coming out of halftime trailing 47-23, BSU was only able to battle back to within 20 points on the back-end of a 7-2 run just over seven minutes into the second period. Landwehr and sophomore guard Griffin Chase scored eight second-half points each while BSU shot 42.9 percent (15-35) from the field in the final period.

Through the game, BSU shot 41.0 percent (25-61) from the field, 21.4 percent (3-14) from long range and 62.5 percent (5-8) from the free throw line. The Beavers outrebounded the Huskies, 35-30, but gave away 29 points off 16 turnovers.

Bemidji State opens the NSIC Tournament Wednesday, Feb. 27 with a road trip to face the No. 1 seed in the south division.
