Beavers shoot to 100-60 win in exhibition over Comets of Mayville State

BEMIDJI, Minn. (BSU Gymnasium) -- There was another barrage of 3-point shots Friday night at the BSU Gymnasium as the Bemidji State University men’s basketball team earned a 100-60 win in an exhibition over Mayville State University. Junior guard Jacob Hoffman paced the Beavers with 21 points including 6-of-10 3-point field goals while the team’s defense held the Comets to just 30.5 percent shooting from the field.

The deep field goals began immediately for Bemidji State as junior guard Nick Wagner hit back-to-back 3-pointers to open the game and give BSU a 6-0 lead. Two minutes later, Hoffman made his first 3-pointer of the game for a seven-point, 11-4, lead. BSU finished the first half shooting 51.2 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from beyond the arc while forcing 10 MSU turnovers to take a 51-27 lead into halftime.

Bemidji State’s defense stepped up even more in the second half while limiting Mayville State to 26.5 percent shooting from the floor. Hoffman put in 12 of his 21 points in the second half while going 3-of-4 from 3-point range over the final 20 minutes of play.

As a team, Bemidji State shot 52.0 percent from the field and made 13 3-pointers for the second straight game. Hoffman added three rebounds, two assists and one steal to his stat line while Wagner finished with 20 points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal. Junior forward Logan Bader recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds with six assists.

Bemidji State closes out the BSU Classic Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. against Martin Luther College during Bemidji Youth Basketball Day.
