KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Four student-athletes from the Bemidji State University men’s basketball program were recognized for their academic success after being named to the 2019-20 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court.
Senior forward Zach Baumgartner, junior guard Griffin Chase, junior forward Kaden Hart and junior forward Derek Thompson each were named to the NABC Honors Court after finishing the 2019-20 academic year with GPAs above 3.2 as juniors or seniors academically. The four selections for Beaver Men’s Basketball was the most for the program since 2010-11 when four Beavers earned a spot on the NABC Honors Court. Bemidji State has totaled 19 selections to the team in eight seasons under Head Coach Mike Boschee and has been represented on the list every season since 2011-12.
The NABC is located in Kansas City, Mo., and was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve the Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently claims nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men’s basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today’s student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education. For additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, go to www.nabc.org.
