BSU men in third after NSIC Fall Championship

Hastings, Minn. (Hastings Country Club) -- Led by a five-over-par, 149 from freshman Chris Curb (Bemidji, Minn.), the Bemidji State University men’s golf team capped the fall portion of the 2009-10 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Golf Championship in third place. The event took place at the 6,740-yard, par-72 Hastings Country Club in Hastings, Minn. Oct. 4-5.

After carding a team total of 309 to finish in fifth place after day one of competition, the Beavers were second to only the leader Minnesota State University (300) today carding a 305 to slide up two places into third with a 36-hole total of 309-305--614 (+38). With the final 54 holes of the unique event to be played at Lake City, Minnesota’s Jewel Golf Course in April, the Beavers sit 23 strokes of the lead. Minnesota State carded a two-day total of 291-300--591 (+15) to sit atop the leader board while BSU is just three shots out of second place, currently occupied by St. Cloud State University (300-311--611 +35).

Curb captured low honors for BSU firing totals of 73 and 76 to finish tied for fifth place with 149 (+5). He completed 36 holes, five strokes off the pace of 72-72--144 (E) set by Minnesota State’s Kyle Bahe.

Also finishing among the top 15 got Bemidji State was Jesse Nelson (Jr., Pine River, Minn.) who sits in a tie for 11th place at seven over par (77-74--151).

The NSIC Fall Championship draws the curtain on the Beavers’ 2009 slate.
