Bemidji State men slide to ninth in final day of St. John’s Invitational

MONTICELLO, Minn. (Monticello Country Club) -- Golfing the final 36 holes of the 54-hole 2010 St. John’s University Invitational Sunday, the Bemidji State University men’s golf team recorded 312 (+24) and 303 (+15) dropping four places into eighth with a two-day, three-round total of 912 (+56).  The Beavers were led by Jim Foss (Jr., Roseau, Minn.), who posted a 54-hole total of 75-77-74--226 (+12) to tie for 26th individually.

The Beavers finished the event 58 strokes off the lead.  Hosting St. John’s cruised to a 28-shot edge over the field on day two firing a two-under-par 284-287-283--854.  Concordia College-Moorhead finished second with a 303-291-288--882 (+26), two strokes ahead of University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (296-291-297--884; +28) and three shots in front of St. Cloud State University (310-304-296--885) and University of St. Thomas (299-292-294--885), which each finished the invitational plus-29 to tie for fourth place.  

The St. John’s trio of Tony Krogen (69-71-71--211; -3), Mark Giorgi (71-72-69--212; -2), Ben Vangsness (73-73-70--216; +2) took the top three individual honors.  Krogen earned the medallist award finishing the event at three-under-par, while Giorgi was one stoke back at two-under.  Vangsness placed third with a 216 (+2).

The Bemidji State men now turn their focus to the 2010 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships.  The Beavers will travel to Palm Desert, Calif. May 3-5 where they will participate in the Central/West Super Regional.  The event will take place at the Classic Club.
