BSU captures duel versus Concordia-Moorhead on day two rally

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Bemidji Town and Country Club) -- Three Beavers finish among the top five and Justin Johnson (Jr., Roseau, Minn.) claimed medallist honors as the second Bemidji State University men’s golf team posted a three-stroke duel victory over Concordia College-Moorhead Monday at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.

After Sunday’s 18 hole round, the Beavers trailed the Cobbers by five strokes, 336 (+48) to 331 (+43), but the Concordia squad faltered on day two leaving the door wide open for a BSU rally.  On the strength of a seven-over-par 79 by Johnson, the Bemidji State turned in a team total of 334 (+45) to complete the 36-hole event with a 670 (+94).  The Cobbers posted a 342 (+54) to finish three strokes back at 673 (+97).

Johnson capped the event 76-79--155 (+11) to earn individual honors by four stokes over Concordia’s Dylan Ferrell (74-85--159).  In addition, BSU’s Danny Menton (Jr., Hutchinson, Minn.) and Garrett Nelson (Jr., Baudette, Minn.) also turned in scores that ranked among the top five at 168 (+24) and 171 (+27) respectively.

The Beavers return to action this weekend as they travel to St. Cloud, Minn. and the St. Cloud Country Club to participate in the 2010 Husky Classic.  Play begins Sunday and concludes Monday.
