GOTHENBURG, Neb. (Wild Horse Golf Club) -- The Bemidji State University men’s golf team carded a 314 (+26) Monday to finish the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference crossover in 19th place with a 308-314-315--937 (+73). The Beavers were led by Danny Menton (Jr., Hutchinson, Minn.), who finished the 54-hole event in 49th place at 13-over-par (76-74-79-229).
Fort Lewis College cruised to a 13-stroke advantage over the rest of the field to capture top team honors with 292-277-298--867 (+3). University of Colorado-Colorado Springs (209-294-290-874) posted a 290 in the final round of the event to overtake Western New Mexico State University (294-285-304--883) for second place, while the top NSIC team, St. Cloud State University, wound up in fifth place at 22-over-par (294-300-292-886).
RMAC teams finished the event holding down seven of the top ten team positions.
St. Cloud State’s Gordy Diekman captured medallist honors after firing scores of 69, 70 and 70 to finish with 209 (-7) on the par-72, 6,670 Wild Horse Golf Club.
After completing the first two rounds of the crossover tied with teammate Menton, Jim Foss (Sr., Roseau, Minn.) posted a 86 and slid to 78th place with 77-73-86--236 (+20). Justin Johnson (Jr., Roseau, Minn.) fired a BSU-low one-over-par 73 on day two to finish just a shot behind Foss in 80th place. Jordan Priem (So., Long Prairie, Minn.) and Garrett Nelson (Jr., Baudette, Minn.) rounded out the BSU five in 81st and 98 place, respectively.
The Beavers wrap up the fall portion of their 2010-11 schedule Oct. 2-3. The team is slated to travel to Troy Burne Golf Club in Hudson, Wis. to compete in the first two rounds of the NSIC Championship. The final three rounds of the event will take place April 8-10 at The Jewel Golf Club in Hudson, Wis.
