Foss paces BSU men to 11-stroke lead at Cedar Valley Spring Invite

WATERLOO, Iowa (Sunnyside Country Club) -- With three players among the top six positions on the leader board, the Bemidji State University men’s golf team holds an 11-stroke lead over the field after one round of the Cedar Valley Spring Invitational at the 6,756-yard, par-72 Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo, Iowa. Senior Jim Foss (Roseau, Minn.) carded a three-over-par 75 to lead all players entering the final day of competition.
Foss paced a BSU team that turned in a 311 (+23) to grab first place after day one of the two-day, 36-hole event.  The senior fired a 75 (+3) to take a one-shot advantage over a pair of competitors, which included teammate Casey Hill (Jr., Virginia, Minn.), in second place at 76 (+4).  

Minnesota State University, Mankato is BSU’s closest competition, amoing the 10 competing teams, posting a 322 (+34) to sit 11 shots back in second place.

In addition to Foss and C. Hill, BSU’s Tyler Hill (Jr., Virginia, Minn.) carded a 79 (+7) to tie for sixth place, while Justin Johnson (Jr., Roseau, Minn.) is locked in a tie for 12th at nine-over-par (81) and Garrett Nelson (Jr., Baudette, Minn.) rounds out the Beavers’ team score at 14-over-par (86), tied for 44th place.  

Danny Menton
(Jr., Hutchinson, Minn.) and Matt Haugstad (Jr., East Grand Forks, Minn.) are also competing in the event as individuals and enter day two tied for 27th place with 84 (+12).

The Cedar Valley Spring Invitational concludes today with one 18-hole round at the Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo, Iowa.
