BSU men jump to seventh heading into final round of NSIC Championship
LAKE CITY, Minn. (The Jewel Golf Club) -- On the strength of a 16-over-par 300 Saturday, the Bemidji State University men’s golf team continued its ascension up the leader board at the 2010-11 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship.  The team sits seventh after four rounds.  Sophomore Chris Curb (Bemidji, Minn.) led the Beavers with a 72 (+1) and owns 12th after 72 holes of the annual event.

The unique conference tournament is comprised of five 18-hole rounds spread over six months. The first two rounds were set at Troy Burne Golf Course in Hudson, Wis. Oct. 2-3, 2010, while this weekend’s final three rounds are scheduled for the par-71, 6,539-yard Jewel Golf Club.

On the heels of a 308 (+24) to move from 10th to ninth, the Beavers, led by Curb, turned in a 300 to climb past Augustana College and Winona State University and into sole possession of seventh place.  BSU’s 324-319-308-300--1,251 (+115) leaves it 23 shots out of sixth place and Upper Iowa University (1,229/+93), while it holds a one-stoke advantage over Augie (1,252/+116).

St. Cloud State University continues to lead the event at 1,192 (+56) after a seven-over-par 291.  With 18 holes to play, the Huskies hold a three-stroke lead over Minnesota State University 1,195 (+59).

Wayne State College (Neb.) Adam Fields finished play Saturday at one-over-par (285) after a 73 (+2).   He enters the final round of play atop the leader board and owns a three-shot cushion of Minnesota State’s Kyle Bahe (288/+4) and the rest of the championship field.

In addition to Curb in 12th place, the Beavers have two other golfers participating in the individual portion of the event. Senior captain Jim Foss (Roseau, Minn.) matched Curb’s 72 (+1) to move into 28th place with 319 (+35) and Justin Johnson (Jr., Roseau, Minn.) sits 33rd with four-round total of 323 (+39).

Bemidji State and the rest of the NSIC Championship field will be back at The Jewel Golf Course tomorrow to wrap up the 2010-11 NSIC Championship with the fifth and final round.  Round five is set to begin at 9 a.m.
