Menton leads Bemidji State to third place finish at Concordia Invite
MOORHEAD, Minn. (Village Green Golf Course) -- The Bemidji State golf team opened the 2011 campaign with a third-place finish in the Concordia Invitational Friday and Saturday at Village Green Golf Course in Moorhead, Minn.  

Led by a first round-low 67 (-4) by senior Casey Hill (Virginia, Minn.), the Beavers completed day one in second place (294/+10), just four strokes off the pace set by the University of Minnesota, Crookston (290/+6), but got caught in the wind Saturday and turned in a 311 on day two finish the event with a 294-311--605 (+33) and fell to third place.

Danny Menton (Sr., Hutchinson, Minn.) led all Beavers finishing tied for fifth individually with a two-over-par, 73-72--145.

Host team Concordia College (Minn.) shot a 302 (+18) on day two to leapfrog BSU and day one leader UMC and take the team title by three shots (295-302--597/+25) over the Golden Eagles (290-310--600/+28).

UMC’s Seth Hepner captured top individual honors carding a 36-hole total of 70-72--142 (-1).

In addition to Menton, BSU’s Hill finished three shots back (67-81--148/+5) tied for seventh, while newcomer John Hafdal (Fr., Prior Lake, Minn.) took 12th in his first collegiate event at seven-over-par (73-77--150) to round out players finishing in the top 15 individually.

The BSU men’s golf team will be back in action Sept. 11-12 as the team will split to compete in two events.  The Beavers’ top five golfers will  head to Troy Burne Golf Course in Hudson, Wis. to complete in the NSIC Preview, while the rest of the team will stay home to host the 2011 BSU Invitational at Bemidji Town and Country Club.
