Beaver golf ties for sixth at Prairie Star Shootout

PELKIN, Ill. (Pelkin Country Club) -- The Bemidji State University men’s golf team opened its 2012 spring season March 18-19 with a sixth place finish in the Prairie Star Shootout in Pelkin, Ill. The Beavers were led by Danny Menton (Sr., Hutchinson, Minn.) and Casey Hill (Sr., Virginia, Minn.) who tied for ninth place individually at +8 (152).

Menton and Hill finished the 36-hole tournament three strokes off the led set by individual medallist Shane McCaffertey of University of Illinois-Springfield.

The Beavers’ team score of 619 (+43) matched Concordia University-St. Paul and McKendree University for sixth, just two strokes behind the top Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) team Upper Iowa University (+41/617).

Host school Illinois-Springfield (+26/602) won the team title by nine strokes over  Drury University (+35/611).

Bemidji State’s next action comes March 30-April 1 when the team travels to Wayne, Neb. to compete in the Wayne State Spring Invitational.
