Men's golf eighth after first day of NSIC Preview

BRAINERD, Minn. (The Classic) -- The Bemidji State men's golf team sits in eighth place after day one of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Preview, held Monday at The Classic at Madden's in Brainerd, Minn.

The Beavers, who completed the first 18 holes of the 36-hole event with a team score of 316, are 26 strokes off the pace set by St. Cloud State University (290).

Junior Andrew Benson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) carded a three-over-par 75 to lead the BSU contingent and tie three others for sixth individually. Charlie West and Jack Barnhardt of SCSU turned in matching one-under-par 71s to hold a one-shot lead over teammate Jack Pexa (72/E) and the rest of the field.

Bemidji State and the rest of the 10-team field will complete the event with the final 18 holes tomorrow.  The shotgun start is set for 8:30 a.m.
