ST. CLOUD, Minn. (St. Cloud CC) -- The Bemidji State University men's golf team opened the 2013 Husky Invitational with a bang. Three of the Beavers’ top five golfers were among the top five individuals and BSU heads into the second round of the tournament with an eight-stroke lead over the 15-team field for championship honors.
Freshman A.J. Oster (Andover, Minn.) led the Beavers and sits tied with two others atop the leaderboard after 18 holes. The newcomer carded a one-under-par 71 Sunday at the par 72, 6,676-yard St. Cloud Country Club. Teammates Andrew Benson (Jr., Eden Prairie) and John Hafdal (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) are just two strokes back tied for fourth at 73.
As a team, BSU finished the first day of the 36-hole event with a three-over-par 291 sit in first place. Concordia University, St. Paul is second with 299 (+11).
The Beavers and the rest of the field will tee off on the second round of the event at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow at the St. Cloud Country Club.
