OMAHA, Neb. (Quarry Oaks, Golf Club) -- Junior Andrew Benson turned in scores of 79 (+8) and 78 (+7) at the Quarry Oaks Collegiate to lead the Bemidji State University men’s golf contingent and tie for 13th individually. BSU placed ninth in the 10-team event played March 30-31 at the par-71, 6,867-yard Quarry Oaks Golf Club in Omaha, Neb.
Benson’s 13-over-par total of 157 in 36 holes placed him in a tie for 13th overall and 12 stokes off the pace set by St. Cloud State University’s Devin Holmes, who finished the event with a one-over-par 143 (73-70).
Holmes paced the Huskies, which had three individuals finish among the top five in the event, to a team title. SCSU finished the 36-hole tournament with a team total of 599 (+35/ 299-300) and a 22-stroke cushion over Concordia University-St. Paul (301-320—621/ +57).
Bemidji State, which was tenth after a day one 332 (+48), climbed into ninth place on day two, posting a 331 (+47) to sit at 663 (+99)—64 shots out of team title contention.
The BSU men’s golf team will be back in action April 6-7 when it travels to Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo, Iowa to compete in the Upper Iowa Invitational.
