BEMIDJI, Minn. (Bemidji Town and Country Club) -- Bemidji State senior Andrew Benson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) carded a one-under-par 71 Sunday to share the top spot on the leaderboard and put the Beavers in contention for the 2014 BSU Invitational title.
Benson's 71 matched Minot State University's Kowan O'Keefe for the low score of the day and put the pair one stroke over BSU newcomer Trevor Martensson (Fr., Calgary, Alberta), who carded an even 72, for medalist honors.
The Bemidji State team of Benson, Martensson, Jeffrey Shermoen (Jr., International Falls, Minn.) and Aaron Leintz (So., Bagley, Minn.) posted a 298 (+10) to grab a 10-stroke lead over Minot State (308/+20) for the team lead heading into day 2, while University of Minnesota Crookston sits third at 318 (+30).
The final 18 holes of the event will begin tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.
