Beavers place fifth; Benson 11th at UNK Fall Invite

AXTELL, Neb. (Awarii Dunes) -- The Bemidji State University men’s golf team carded a 912 (303-296-313) Tuesday to finish the 54-hole University of Nebraska-Kearney Fall Invitational in sixth place. Senior Andrew Benson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) led the way for the Beavers, carding a five-over-par 221 (71-73-77) to place 11th individually.

BSU finished fifth in the 15-team field at the conclusion of 36 holes Monday with 303-296--599 (+23), but slipped on day two carding a 313 (+25) to finish six strokes behind University of Sioux Falls (906/+19) for fifth and 45 shots off the pace set by team champion Minnesota State University (867/+3).

Led by individual medalist Ross Miller, who fired a four-under-par 68 in the final round to finish the tournament at 211 (-5), the Mavericks cruised to a 20-shot victory in the event. Dodge City Community college came in second with an 887 (+23).

The Beavers return to action Sunday when they travel to St. Cloud Country Club in St. Cloud, Minn. to participate in the two-day, 36-hole St. Cloud State Fall Classic. Tee times begin at 11 a.m. Sunday and will conclude with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Monday.
