Czeh leads Beavers to 10th at J.R. Watkins Invitational

LAKE CITY, Minn. (The Jewel GC) -- Sophomore Will Czeh carded rounds of 72 and 78 to finish the J.R. Watkins Invitational tied for 17th place at six-over-par and lead the Bemidji State University men's golf team to 10th place at The Jewel Golf Club Tuesday.

The Beavers sat 11 strokes off the lead after 18 holes of the Winona State University-hosted event, carding a 302 (+14) Monday, but faltered Tuesday dropping 10 shots to finish the day with a 312 (+24) and the tournament at 614 (+38). While BSU slid to 10th place as a team, just five strokes separated it from Augustana University and sixth place.

Winona State took the team title buoyed by the only two individuals to finish under par. Medalist Lucas Peterson and runner-up Michael Schmitz fired 36-hole totals of 141 (-3) and 142 (-2), respectively, to help the Warriors separate from the rest of the 16-team field. WSU finished the tournament with rounds of 291 and 289 to post a team total of a four-over-par 580.  Minot State University was 24 shots back with 303-299--602 (+26).

In addition to Czeh, BSU’s Sam Otto and Aaron Leintz finished among the top 40 individuals on the leaderboard. Otto was tied for 32nd at 10-over-par (73-81--154) and Leintz finished at 11-over-par (79-76--155) to tie for 39th place.

The Beavers wrap up the fall portion of their 2016-17 season at the Holiday Inn Express Classic in St. Charles, Mo. Oct. 10-11.
