BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Bemidji State University men’s golf fifth-year senior Brandon Nelson was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Men’s Golfer of the Week Wednesday after leading the Beavers at the Northeastern State Men’s Golf Classic earlier this week.
Nelson fired a career 54-hole low 209 (69-68-72) which was four-under par for the tournament and tied him sixth individually. The Litchfield, Minn., native began the tournament with a two-under par 69 in round one and then followed with a career-low 68 in round two later that evening. He then closed out the third round of the tournament with a one-over par 72 to finish four-under par to finish seven strokes in front of the next NSIC golfer.
Nelson and the Beavers finished 13th of 18 teams at the tournament with a team score of 885 (291-294-300).
Nelson leads the Beavers in scoring early in the fall season with an average score of 71.4, four-strokes below his career average. He and the rest of the BSU men’s golf squad will continue the fall season at the J.R. Watkins Invitational at The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn., Sept. 27-28.
