BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University’s Sierra Senske and Philip Brewer have been selected as Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week, after outstanding athletic performances during the week of Dec. 7-13.
Senske recorded her first career double-double as she led the Beavers’ offense with 19 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds in BSU’s 83-72 loss Friday against Augustana College. She finished the weekend shooting 63.2 percent (12-19) from the field and 46.2 percent (6-13) from the free throw line.
Senske averaged 15.0 points per game in the two-game road stint, including her fifth consecutive game scoring double-digits with 11 points in a 99-52 fall Saturday to then No. 7 Wayne State. Totaled 18 rebounds (9.0 RPG) and added one assist to end the weekend.
Brewer led the Beavers to a 1-0-1 weekend in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play to extend BSU’s unbeaten streak to five games (2-0-3) to cap the first half of the 2014-15 season. He logged the game-winner in a 4-2 victory over Northern Michigan Friday and netted the game-tying goal in Saturday’s 2-2 tie. Brewer finished the weekend with a +2 plus/minus rating and posted a pair of blocked shots.
Now 2-7 overall and 0-5 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play, the BSU women’s basketball team will be back in action Dec. 19 as it travels to rival University of Minnesota Crookston before the holiday break. Tip off is set for 5 p.m. from Lysaker Gymnasium.
The Beavers’ men’s hockey team heads into the holiday break 5-10-3 overall and are 3-6-3 in WCHA play to sit in seventh place. Bemidji State will return to action Jan. 9-10 when it hosts longtime-rival University of Alabama-Huntsville for a two-game WCHA series at Sanford Center.
