EDINA, Minn. – Bemidji State University defenseman Graeme McCormack has been selected for Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week honors following play versus No. 1 University of North Dakota, Oct. 16-17.
McCormack recorded his first collegiate multi-goal game Friday, helping lead Bemidji State to a 4-4 draw with top-ranked North Dakota. Playing in his 100th collegiate game, the Beavers’ captain twice jump-started rallies from two-goal deficits with power-play goals, striking at the 11:36 mark of the first period to open BSU’s scoring, then scoring just 1:13 into the third period to bring the home team within one at 4-3. The senior from Thunder Bay, Ontario helped the Beavers finish 3-for-5 on the power play, while also adding four blocked shots on the defensive end.
The Beavers, now 1-1-1 on the season, open WCHA play at 7:37 p.m. Friday as BSU hosts Minnesota State University, Mankato at Sanford Center. The teams complete the special Alumni Weekend series with a 7:907 p.m. opening faceoff Saturday.
