BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University Head Coach Tom Serratore and sophomore forward Gerry Fitzgerald talk to the media as they prepare to open the WCHA season by hosting Minnesota State University, Mankato this weekend.
The series marks an extension to one of BSU’s most often revisited rivalries. The BSU-MSU series got its start Nov. 25, 1974 and has included 105 meetings, which is second to only Wisconsin-Superior (129 games) as BSU’s most familiar opponent of all time. The Beavers enter the weekend toting a 49-45-13 advantage in the all-time series and are 32-16-5 when hosting the Mavericks. However, MSU has been victorious in nine of the last 13 meetings between the teams. The Mavericks took the season series a year ago winning three of the five meetings (3-2-0), including the last meeting between the teams in the 2014-15 regular-season finale at Sanford Center, 3-0, March 7.
The Beavers and Mavericks drop the puck on the 2015-16 WCHA season at 7:37 p.m. Friday and will play the second game of the series at 7:07 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are still available for both games and can be purchased at the Sanford Center Box Office, any Ticketmaster Outlet or Ticketmaster.com.
