BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University greats, alumni, friends and fans of the BSU men’s ice hockey team will gather at the Bemidji Town and Country Club Friday, July 15 to participate in the 19th Annual Galen Nagle Memorial Golf Tournament sponsored by Sanford Health.
The 7:35 a.m. and 12:35 p.m. shotgun starts are nearing, but there is still time to get in on the fun and support BSU men’s hockey by registering for one of the flights. Your $110 registration fee includes: 18 holes of Texas scramble golf, tee prizes, door prizes and dinner as well as a chance to win several course contests including a hole in one contest sponsored by Dondelinger GM.
Following play (at approximately 6:30 p.m.), a dinner will be served, awards announced and attendees will have an opportunity to participate in a live auction. Auction items include: an autographed Matt Read Philadelphia Flyers jersey, a guitar autographed by legendary rock group The Eagles, canvas print commemorating the Beaver Hockey players who have gone on to play in the NHL, a Boundary Waters excursion, game-worn Bemidji State jerseys, BSU/North Dakota, BSU/Minnesota Duluth and North Star College Cup ticket packages and much more.
Additional dinner tickets can be purchased for $15 each.
The deadline for online registration is July 14, but walk up registration will be accepted prior to each flight at the course.
All proceeds from the tournament and auction will directly benefit the BSU’s men’s hockey program and the endowment fund set up in Nagle’s name.
The tournament got its start in 1998 in an effort to build the Galen Nagle Endowment Fund, which was established to benefit BSU men’s hockey in 1997.
Nagle, who was a goaltender for the Beavers from 1980-84, went on to serve as a coach and teacher in Minnesota for several years before losing his battle to cancer Oct. 18, 1994 at the age of 34.
Nagle was a member of the historic 1984 national championship team at BSU. He earned an 8-1 victory between the pipes to cap off the perfect 31-0 season.
“Galen exemplified Beaver hockey,” said former BSU men’s hockey coach and athletic director R.H. “Bob” Peters. “Hard work, dedication and loyalty were inherent to his character, and through his efforts, he became a vital part of our team.”
Nagle, a native of Baudette, Minn., graduated from BSU in 1984 and was a 1980 graduate of Bemidji High School.
