BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University men’s ice hockey team dropped to No. 15 in the top 20 poll and No. 15 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll for the second consecutive week, after taking five of six points out of it’s Western Collegiate Hockey Association series versus Lake Superior State University, Dec. 9-10.

At No. 15, this week marks the 11th consecutive week the Beavers have appeared in the poll in 2016-17 and the 143th time since making a move to the NCAA Division I level for the 1999-2000 season. The Beavers have reached as high as No. 4 in the poll, Dec. 12, 2009, and have been ranked among top 20 teams for 41 weeks.

This week the Beavers earned 326 points to hold the No. 15 spot dipping two spots in the poll, while their Dec. 16-17 opponent, the University of Minnesota Duluth remained in the top spot, garnering 42 of 50 first place votes and 991 points.

Bemidji State was also back in the No. 15 spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, marking the seventh consecutive week BSU has made an appearance in the poll and 64 weeks receiving at least one vote since making the jump to the NCAA Division I level prior to the 1999-2000 season.

The University of Minnesota Duluth was atop the USA Today/USA Hockey Poll for the fourth straight week and sixth week this season. The Bulldogs took 32 of 34 first place votes.

The Beavers are the only WCHA representative in the USA Today/USA Hockey Poll, while Minnesota State University, Mankato, is No. 19 in the survey.

The Beavers, now 13-5-2 overall and 13-1-2-2 in league play, returns to Sanford Center Dec. 17 to host the University of Minnesota Duluth for the second game of a non-conference home-and-home series. The opening face off is set for 7:07 p.m. Saturday.

The College Sports Poll consists of 50 voters, including 28 coaches from the Division I conferences and 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country. The poll, published weekly by the Associated Press, is a joint production of, which provides in-depth coverage of college sports, including hockey, lacrosse, soccer and others, and CBS College Sports Networks, Inc., the only digital media company dedicated solely to college sports. CBS College Sports operates a 24-hour college sports cable network, also available via DISH and DirecTV satellite.

The USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men’s College Hockey Poll, now in its 15th year, is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA). The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
