Bemidji State first to clinch home WCHA Playoff bid

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University men's hockey team became the first Western Collegiate Hockey Association team to clinch a home playoff series bid Friday.

While the first-place Beavers were in the midst of a non-conference weekend competing at the North Star College Cup, the Beavers still tied op the league's first home playoff series. With a 16-4-2-2 record in WCHA play, the Beavers have been assured of finishing no worse than fourth place in the league standings with four weeks left in the regular season. A win by Minnesota State University, Mankato over Lake Superior State University Friday sealed BSU's top-four finish.

The first round of the WCHA playoffs will consist of four best-of-three, quarterfinal round series hosted by the league’s top four regular-season finishers March 3-5, followed by two best-of-three semifinal round series hosted by the highest remaining seeds March 10-12. The WCHA Championship and automatic NCAA Tournament bid will be on the line in a single game, hosted by the highest remaining seed March 18.

Tickets for BSU's first round playoff series will go on sale Feb. 1 at the Sanford Center Bob Lowth Ford Pick Up Window, at Ticketmaster.com,  all Ticketmaster Outlet locations or by calling (218) 441-4031. First round playoff tickets were included as part of the 2016-17 seaosn ticket packages.
